Amazon acquires Double Helix Games

The Gaming Studio Double Helix Games founded in 2007 has been bought over by Amazon and the company has confirmed the news, though the financial terms have not been given out.

There have been recent rumors that Amazon would be venturing in to the Gaming segment with their own Android based Gaming console priced around $300 and might compete with the industry giants, though the grapevine was quite a buzz even last year with the speculation of Amazon’s probable launch of a system with Qualcomm processor under the hood, this of-course is yet to be ascertained but Amazon has declined to comment yet.

The California based Gaming Studio Double Helix currently employs around 75 members and the current acquisition by Amazon has been heard to be comprising of Talent as well as Intellectual Property, implying that the current staff would only be working for Amazon from the near future.

Double Helix, a company formed in 2007, from the merger of the once two popular Games development setups, namely the Shiny Entertainment and Collective Inc. and has a total Game development experience of more than 18years. Before their merger in 2007 Collective Inc. had under its belt some enthralling games like “Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” etc. and Shiny Entertainment had developed some popular games like “Enter the Matrix”, “Earthworm Jim” etc., after the Double Helix merger through the time they have come up with some very interesting titles like “Battleship”, “Front Mission Evolved”, “G.I.Joe: The Rise of the Cobra”, “Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters” among others, primarily Movie based Action Games for PC and Consoles.

Amazon setup a Gaming studio of its own in 2012 and has titles but nothing major and thus this takeover of Double Helix could hopefully prove along way in some pretty new titles and interesting  Action Games coming up from Amazon soon.
