Acer Liquid Z5 – Initial Short Review
|Acer Liquid Z5 has just launched this end of month and seems like a good mixture of price and specs, comprising of a large 5 inch Display and reasonably priced at $230 for this segment of phones.
Acer Liquid sports a button just under the camera in lieu with the current trend which can be customized to act as dedicated camera button or to start on a particular app when unlocked with it. Other than this, there are the standard Volume button and MicroSD slot on the right side and a power button on the top.
The phone at just 8.8mm thickness except at the protruding camera is slim and little lighter at 150g. The Liquid’s 5 inch Display comes with 16m colors – 854×480 resolution which is a slight put off when compared to the competitors, the colors are a little bit dull not much to talk on, though having said that, the display seems good enough even on a sunny day and with good viewing angle range.
Operating system on the Acer Liquid Z5 is a slightly older version of Android with 4.2.2 Jellybean, while presently the 4.4 Kitkat version is already available in the market for the phones. Acer has a new take on the Android with a few additions and chief among them is the Floating Apps, like when composing or reading an email you would like to do a little math and need the calculator, you wouldn’t have to close the email app but can work on the Calculator over it.
Discussing on the technical aspects of the Acer Liquid don’t present much of a oomph either, the Liquid is equipped with Dual-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7, 512 MB RAM and 4GB internal memory and external memory through MicroSD upgradable to 64GB. The phone performs well with the standard functions but might struggle during any heavy gaming sessions.
The cameras are also quite comparable with the present day standards for this segment at 5MP and a front camera at a basic VGA.
Acer Liquid with the other features has GPS with assisted A-GPS, HSPA+ Connectivity, WiFi and Bluetooth these have also been able to perform with good stable connectivity.
Acer Liquid Z5 comes with a 2000 mAh battery, which tends to suffice for a full day’s job at a moderate level usage.
The competition for Acer Liquid Z5 from quad-core based Moto G and Nexus 5 may be too tough to handle, with the low specs, an outdated Android version of 4.2.2, and a plasticy though not overly offending feeling phone.
Thus first impressions of the phone are, its just the phone for the budget segment but with nothing much to offer to stand out in the race and with fierce competition from MotoG and Nexus 5 with loads of performance to offer there’s not much hope…. But we might just have to wait and see…
