BBM “beyond handsets and phone”, might come to desktops
|At the MWC2014 BlackBerry has launched two new models of its SmartPhones and during the launch the CEO, John Chen, in his introductory talk revealed that the popular messaging service of the company BBM, which had been recently released for the Android and iOS would eventually released for the Desktops too and said that the BBM at some point would eventually have to go “beyond handsets and Phone”.
Considering that Blackberry has already announced that it was in the process of coding and progressing towards release of the BBM for Windows phones around this summer, it is not much of a surprise for the BBM messenger to percolate down to the Desktop Windows versions as the baseline libraries and architecture of the windows phones is not much different to the Desktop Windows OS and thus we could expect to see the BBM emerging to the Desktops sooner if not later.
With BlackBerry showing a huge $4.4 billion quarterly loss last year and having a major write down of BlackBerry 10 devices, supposedly with the contract with FoxConn and other initiatives BlackBerry is striving to forge into other trends and markets to regain its popularity and improve its market share.
