Microsoft to change SkyDrive to OneDrive

Microsoft is all set and about to rename its online storage from SkyDrive to OneDrive sometime soon, though official date is yet to be announced for the actual roll out, wheels are already in motion and fliers are out.

News is out that Microsoft is up for another of its renaming situations after it has lost a trademark battles against U.K. broadcaster British Sky Broadcasting commonly known as BskyB, though Microsoft would be allowed to use the name for a “reasonable amount of time” BskyB mentioned in a statement, with this new loss Microsoft is forced to rename the SkyDrive to OneDrive.

The first one of such changes like these, being the use of the term Metro Design for the Windows 8 when the German gaming company Metro AG raised issues with the word ‘Metro’ and thus had Microsoft to refrain from using the word Metro replacing it with either Modern or just Windows 8 design.

The promotion though has been on the high with the caption “Get ready for an even better place to store and share your favorite things across all your favorite devices,” from Microsoft’s OneDrive splash page, but we are yet to see if there are any new enhancements.

The possibility of new enhancements could be in the areas of Photo and Video storage/ sharing as had been mentioned in one of the first Microsoft’s OneDrive blog posts.
