Sony Play Station 4 Sales Past 5.3 Million

Sony has announced a 5.3 million+ global sale of its latest gaming console Play Station 4, after being the top seller last month in the US, though Sony has not given any numbers, it has stated that the sales were more than double of its nearest competitor (Xbox One from Microsoft).

Andrew House, President and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, in a statement said “I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season. We are delighted that according to the NPD Group’s latest data, PS4 was January’s top-selling console in the United States”.

Sony launched the Play Station 4 on November 15 2013 across 32 regions including North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia and is scheduled to launch in its home country Japan on February 22 2014, coinciding with the launch of Sega’s Yakuza Restoration and the next-gen beta of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.

“The PS4 system’s momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation fans and I’m looking forward to Japanese fans sharing the excitement of the deep social capabilities and entertainment experiences only possible on PS4.” Andrew House said in a statement.

The play Station 4 costs $399 for the console and one controller but with other accessories and game bundles it could easily reach up to $500 and more.

Sony and Microsoft have released their global sales figures in early January for the calendar year 2013,  Sony had sold 4.2 million Play Station 4 consoles while Microsoft has sold about 3 million Xbox Ones, and consolidating Sony remains a global market puller for the present in sales of gaming consoles.
